Cycle B Easter 2

4/12/2015 Confession

Sunday Title:  Still Resurrection Sunday
Sermon Title: There really is a lot going on here.

Previously:
Sunday Title:  Spirit Sunday  Pentecost?
Sermon Title: Spirit Old -Spirit New

Scripture Cuttings:  Acts 4:32-35; Psalm 133; 1 John 1:1--2:2; John 20:19-31 (White)
Acts 4:32-35 With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus....
Psalm 133 For there the Lord ordained his blessing, life forevermore.
1 John 1-2:2 God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
John 20:19-31 Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.

P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Together let us prepare to confess:
C: If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just
will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (pause)
P:  Saving Lord...
C: Oh, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers and sisters live together in unity.
Too bad we don’t do that.
Lord you know that we are slow to trust and come together.
We find such inventive ways of separating ourselves:
  different generations, rich, poor,
those with needs: physical and spiritual,
those who don’t need or want anything,
each a new prejudice for us to overcome.
How blessed are we, who have not seen, yet we have come to believe
Still we doubt when you come to send us to any task.
Forgive us Lord for the sins we can name,
save from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)

P:  To the Glory of God the Heavenly Father, The Lord is risen!
C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
P:  In our risen Lord, Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Through him we receive forgiveness of all our sins. Because of this we no longer may retain the sins of our sisters and brothers. We are free from this burden. The Holy Spirit is breathed upon us, and we may live together in unity. To the Glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!

C: And also with you!

Cycle B Resurrection of Our Lord

4/5/2015 Confession

Sermon Title: Sharing the Good News!

Previously:
Sunday Title: Resurrection Sunday

Sermon Title: “It’s 11:00! Do you know where….”
Sunday Title: Resurrection Sunday
Sermon Title: "Plan-Execution-Completeness"
Sunday Title: Resurrection Sunday
Sermon Title:  “Stuck in a Rut”

Scripture Cuttings:
Isaiah 25:6-9 It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.
Psalm 118:1-2, 13-22 I was pushed hard, so that I was falling, but the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation.
1 Corinthians 15:1-11 Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you have come to believe in vain.
John 20:1-18 “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  There is Good News here today,
but we need to be honest with God
to understand what it means for us. (pause for reflection: honest- without our disguise)
  Lord God...
C: we are not like the first witnesses of the Resurrection.
We do not pursue you as the true center of our lives.
We do not treat the good news with utmost importance.
We do not share it with others.
We do not trust the Resurrection to change our lives,
and see no urgency in the redemption you raise up.
In fact, we can even let early mornings
deter us from being willing servants of Jesus.
Lord we have become disconnected
and we are not ready for your Glory.
Forgive us Lord for the sins we know,
save from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)

P:  There is Good News this morning, because we do not own a single fear, or doubt, or hesitation, the Lord our God does not overcome. It is by God’s own faithfulness that Jesus Christ died for our sins and that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day. For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven. By the power of the Holy Spirit we too are to become witnesses- apostles to proclaim the Resurrection of our Lord so that all may believe. To the Glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!

C: And also with you!

Cycle B Lent 5

3/22/2015 Confession

Sunday Title:  Seeking Sunday
Sermon Title: Still Seeking?

Previously:
Sunday Title:  Hour Sunday
Sermon Title: Ripe Times
Sunday Title:  Seed Sunday
Sermon Title: “A Mystery Planted”
Sunday Title:  Hour Sunday
Sermon Title: "Out of Time"
Sunday Title:  Humility & Glory Sunday
Sermon Title: “The Unbelievable Foretelling”

Scripture Cuttings:
Jeremiah 31:31-34 No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, "Know the Lord," for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.
Psalm 119:9-16 Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes. With my lips I declare all the ordinances of your mouth.
Hebrews 5:5-10 Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.
John 12:20-33 "Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say—'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name."

All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  The Lord desires a new covenant with the people of God.
Let us open our hearts and minds. (pause to create a blank slate for God to write upon)
  Lord God...
C: we do not contemplate the depth of your humility on the cross,
because it would cause us to contemplate our lack of depth.
We are unprepared for the magnitude of your glory,
because we are so attached to our life in this world.
We are comfortable giving you some
of our time and possessions this morning,
but we would prefer that you not write your law on our hearts.
Save us, save us, Lord from the sins we know,
Save us, save us, from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  The Lord desires to forgive our iniquity and remember our sin no more. God the heavenly Father wants this badly enough to lift up his only begotten Son. To lift him up on a cross and to lift him up in a resurrection from the dead. Because of Jesus Christ’s reverent submission, he has become the source of eternal salvation and will draw all people to himself. (For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven). By the power of the Holy Spirit we too are drawn to this God who would write upon our hearts. In the name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw
