Scripture Cuttings:
Acts 2:1-21 Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit.
Genesis 11:1-9 Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Psalm 104:24-34, 35b When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground.
Romans 8:14-17 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption.
John 14:8-17 [25-27] And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Are we prepared to live in the Spirit?
Let us call upon the name of the Lord, and know our salvation.
     (pause for self-examination)
P:  Almighty God...
C: we become distant from your presence,
we are perplexed at the telling of your deeds,
and do not know what they mean for us.
Our trust abides in others
as though we can not hear you,
    and we enslave our spirit
      with desires of the flesh.
We gather power and authority to ourselves
but we have no holy ability.
Few sins we name before you; forgive us Lord
Many sins we conceal; save us Lord.
   (Pause for reflection)
P:  Through the revealing power of the Holy Spirit we may know Jesus Christ and the Heavenly Father who sends him. For Christ's sake, our sins are forgiven. We are saved. We are made whole. And the Advocate that Christ promises makes our work in Christ holy before God. We are children of God, to the glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!

-or-
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
P:  Let us take this time to be honest with God. (pause)
  Great God,
C: we come before you unsure of what to do with your gifts.
You give us your Holy Spirit for guidance,
    yet we remain uncertain.
You breath your breath of life into us,
yet we repeat our foolish choices.
You inspire your Church,
yet we make it another tool of division.
Forgive us Lord for the sins we know in our heart.
Save us Lord from the sins we hide.
  (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  For all of this Lord we are deeply sorry.
C: Amen
P:  God who knows our hearts has indeed sent us a Savior: Jesus Christ our Lord. It is for his sake that God decides our sin stands against us no more, that we are children of God, and that the Holy Spirit poured out on us at our baptism will prevail in all our deeds!  In the name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Together let us open our hearts to our loving God.
    (pause for honest reflection)
P:  Oh Lord...
C: we are in this room together,
but we set aside unity for self-interest,
we set aside unity for self-righteousness,
we set aside unity in our self-absorption.
Jesus prayed that we might be one…
  we forget.
“The Holy Spirit makes us one”
yet we do not say this as hope and vision
but as an excuse to cement division.
We have lost your Love in our disunity.
Forgive us the sins we confess
Save us from what we withhold (Pause for reflection)
P:  In love the heavenly Father sends to us his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. In love Christ died for our sins. We are forgiven. Because he rises from the dead we are strengthened in his love so we may rise from our sins and walk in the way the world will see the Love of God. All to glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  Christ is risen!
C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

P:  Heavenly Father- help us to know ourselves as you see us.
    (pause for earnest self-examination)
P:  Oh Lord...
C: we ignore your calling to proclaim,

You have sent us out to make disciples,

C: Amen

P:  We know our shepherd,

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  We are witnesses to the Resurrection,
yet we do not follow Christ. (pause for self-examination)
P:  Merciful God...
C: How great your Easter triumph,
  how thin our Easter response.
You invite us to follow you,
and we divert ourselves with the world's choices.
We admit our love when questioned,
  but don't live in obedience,
and are not devoted to tending your flock.
Forgive us for the sins we see
Save us from the sins we hid from ourselves.
    (Pause for reflection)
P:  As we acknowledge the depth of our sin, we see glory in God's redemption. Worthy is the Lamb, slaughtered to redeem us. To him and to God be all blessing and honor and glory and might. And to us: our sins are forgiven for Christ's sake. And for his sake we are the instrument chosen to witness the resurrection. By the power of the Holy Spirit we may feed the lambs, tend the sheep and bring the name of Jesus Christ before all people saying "He is the Son of God"  To the glory of  the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  Christ is risen!
C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
