Title: “Acts of Faith and Righteousness”
Scripture
Cuttings:
Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16 God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you
shall not call her Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. I will bless her, and
moreover I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she shall give
rise to nations; kings of peoples shall come from her."
Psalm 22:23-31
future generations will be told about the Lord, and proclaim his deliverance to
a people yet unborn, saying that he has done it.
Romans 4:13-25
For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to Abraham or to
his descendants through the law but through the righteousness of faith.
Mark 8:31-38
And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But turning and looking at
his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you
are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things."
All may make the sign of the cross in
remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P: In the Name of the
Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
P: Shall we trust the Lord with our confession?
(perhaps
trusting God will be easier than trusting ourselves to end our sinful ways)
God Almighty...
C: we say your name,
without
understanding who you are.
We set our minds on human things
not on divine
things.
We are pleased to serve you
but only in an
advisory capacity.
We are unwilling to trust your faithfulness,
perhaps
because we are so unimpressed with our faithfulness.
Save us from the sins we know in our heart.
Save us from the sins we hide. (pause
for reflection and self-examination)
P: To our great fortune, faithfulness does not
rely on us. Indeed God keep the promises made throughout the generations. Even
to this sinful generation, the promise and fulfillment of salvation is made
through Jesus the Christ, the Messiah, the Holy one of God. (For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven). We are invited into this faithfulness in order that
the promise may rest solely on God's grace. In the name of the Father, and the Son,
+ and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw
P: The peace of the
Lord be with you always!
C: And also
with you!

All may make the sign of the cross in
remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P: In the Name of the
Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
P: God Almighty calls us to walk blameless
before God.
(pause)
O Lord...
C: you make great promises in your plan of divine
love,
but we lack
faith and turn our minds toward human things.
You give us an everlasting covenant of right
relationship
and we choose
instead to pursue the whole world.
You reconcile our trespasses
through the
death and resurrection of Jesus our Lord,
yet in our
lives outside these church walls,
we may be
silent and passive,
as
though we are ashamed of Jesus and his words.
Save us from the sins we know in our heart.
Save us from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and
self-examination)
P: In faithfulness our God is tireless. Through
the righteousness of the faith of Jesus Christ we are heirs of the everlasting
covenant. (For
Christ's sake our sins are forgiven).
The Holy Spirit provides for us opportunity to live; not as adherents of the
law, but as people of faith, faith in our risen Lord Jesus Christ. In the name
of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen -wjw
P: The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
