Sermon Title: “Welcome to Pastor Jim Brandis”

Scripture Cuttings:
Isaiah 65:1-9 Thus says the Lord: As the wine is found in the cluster, and they say, “Do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it,” so I will do for my servants’ sake, and not destroy them all.
Psalm 22:19-28 From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will pay before those who fear him.
Galatians 3:23-29 Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.
Luke 8:26-39 When he saw Jesus, he fell down before him and shouted at the top of his voice, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me”—

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Let us put our defenses down and be honest with God.
  (pause)
  Faithful Lord,
C: we come before You
with too much self-confidence for our own good.
We think our success is by our own effort
and we despise those without achievement.
When we are strong
we think it to be our own character
instead of counting it as a blessing from you to be shared.
And when you rescue us from humbling places
  and desperate times
    we fail to praise you.
Forgive us the sins we know in our heart.
Save us from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  For all these and more Lord, we are deeply sorry.
C: Amen
P:  God’s faithfulness is not contingent. Filled with the Spirit from our baptism we can again open our hearts and through Jesus Christ, God will make us new, strong, and whole. It is for Christ's sake that our sins are forgiven. It is by faith in Christ and the faithfulness of Christ that we shall rise again to bless the Lord. In the name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
