Scripture Cuttings:
Isaiah 9:1-4 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness— on them light has shined.
Psalm 27:1, 4-9 One thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life....
1 Corinthians 1:10-18 For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Matthew 4:12-23 From that time Jesus began to proclaim, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.’

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near. (pause)
  Lord of light...
C: when we walk in darkness
  we hope for your light,
    then you increase our harvest
      and fill us with joy
yet we do not exult you.
You united us in our baptism
but we never cease to divide your church
    with our quarrels.
Your call to your kingdom is an imperative,
  yet we entangle ourselves
    with our own priorities.
Forgive us Lord from the sins we know in our heart.
Save us Lord from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  Lord your time is now.
C: Hear our voice and have mercy on us. Amen
P:  Our God is faithful and hears our voice when we call. God responds with the power of the cross through Jesus Christ. He is the light who shines on our darkness. For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven. Through the Holy Spirit poured out in our baptism we have become children of God and united in the same mind and purpose, in the name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
-or-
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.
Shall we make a good confession with God? (pause)
  Lord...
C: just as you called Peter and Andrew
  you call me to follow you;
but I really go my own way.
I do my Sunday morning check in,
and then check out by afternoon.
My first priority is not with you,
in fact mostly I do just enough to get by,
because if I were to really follow.... (pause)
(the shorter the pause the more anxious we are to move on)
P:  Lord...
C: Forgive me from the sins I name.
Save me from the sins I hold back.
P:  Thank God for God’s great love for us: when we choose to live in darkness God still sends the light. The light is the Son of God, Jesus Christ our Lord. It is Christ who calls us to follow. For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven. Now again we may heed the good news of the kingdom of heaven and follow our redeemer. To the glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit. the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
