6/2/2013 Confession

Sunday Title: Gospel Sunday
Sermon Title: Is the Gospel hard or easy?

Previously:
Sunday Title: Authority Sunday
Sermon Title: What do we know of authority?

Scripture Cuttings:
1 Kings 8:22-23, 41-43 "Likewise when a foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, comes from a distant land because of your name…."
Psalm 96:1-9 Worship the Lord in holy splendor; tremble before him, all the earth.
Galatians 1:1-12 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to set us free from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luke 7:1-10 For I also am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me….

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  We come before the altar of the Lord,
in the presence of the assembly of believers.
Let us speak before the Lord with our hearts true.
(pause to consider a truthful heart)
P:  Steadfast God...
C: We are people who speak of your authority and,
we are people who hear the Gospel.
Still we act as if there is another gospel for us to follow.
A gospel that more people would like to follow:
a popular message that would be more pleasing to people.
Perhaps we could shout our righteousness louder,
be more earnest in the seperation of your people and outsiders,
lift up our well earned worthyness as examples.
We are not confused; you want us to have the moral authority,
why so much emphasis on being a servant of Christ?
    We have the gospel message,
why would those other people have a witness for us?
Forgive the sins before us.
Save us from the sin in us.
    (Pause for reflection)
P: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to set us free from the present evil age. Our sins are forgiven. Now raised with Christ we may sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day, declare his glory among the nations, and do his marvelous work among all the peoples. In the name of the Father and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit to whom be the glory forever and ever.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
