Sunday Title: Honest Sunday
Sermon Title: “Is Faithfulness a Virtue?”

Scripture Cuttings:
Amos 8:4-7 Hear this, you that trample on the needy, and bring to ruin the poor of the land….
Psalm 113 The Lord raises the poor from the dust, and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.
1 Timothy 2:1-7 This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself a ransom for all….
Luke 16:1-13 No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  God looks for truth deep within us, let us not hide. (pause)
  God most high,
C: to gain the things of this world
  we spend intelligence and strength,
and do not hold back shrewdness or deceit.
We do not use our ingenuity for your benefit
and we cast away our integrity without regret.
We are prudent with material possessions
  but sloppy with the eternal.
We care too little for justice
and use our wealth for just us.
Forgive us Lord for the sins we know in our heart.
Save us Lord from the sins we hide.
    (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  God of Jacob...
C: hear our repentance,
lift us out of weakness, show us truth. Amen
P:  Our God desires for all to be saved through faith and truth. Jesus Christ has died and is raised and ransoms our lives. For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven and we are given new life. Through the Holy Spirit we are promised knowledge of this truth and our repentance may become real, and right, and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior. This to the glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
