11/10/2013 Confession(s)

Sunday Title:  Layer Sunday
Sermon Title: "One Bride Seven Brothers"

Previously:
Sunday Title:  Stewardship
Sermon Title: “The “currency” of our lives”

Scripture Cuttings:
Job 19:23-27a For I know that my Redeemer lives....
Psalm 17:1-9 Guard me as the apple of the eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-5, 13-17 As to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we beg you, brothers and sisters, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as though from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here. Let no one deceive you in any way....
Luke 20:27-38 Now there were seven brothers; the first married, and died childless; then the second and the third married her, and so in the same way all seven died childless. Finally the woman also died. In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had married her.

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
P:  Let us look deep inside ourselves as we come before God... (pause for self-examination)
P:  Lord you know our hearts...
C: you know how we waver in purpose for life,
we decide to cover ourselves with the things of this world.
As soon as we complete our religious rituals,
you watch us choose to ignore your salvation.
We try to define your heavenly kingdom
  with earthly logic
and hush the Spirit you have put inside of us.
We know the promise of redemption.
but we fail to live faithfully the life you give us now.
Lord forgive these sins uncovered,
Lord save us from the sins hidden. (Pause for reflection)

P:  Our Redeemer lives! We proclaim this to be true. Jesus Christ, the Son of God dies for our sins and is raised from the dead. For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven. We are chosen to be the first fruits for salvation through sanctification by the Holy Spirit and through belief in the truth. For this purpose we are called to be children of God and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, to the glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw
P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
-or-

P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
P:  Let us take this time and be honest with God. (pause)
  O Lord
C: we tangle ourselves up in the details of our daily lives
and forget to remember that all we have is from you.
We rely constantly on the rules and ways of this world
and fail to trust your guidance in our decisions.
We are afraid to change the simplest things
  that make us feel secure
even when we know your power to redeem.
Save us Lord from the sins we know in our heart.
Save us Lord from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  God of  the living...
C: rescue us from ours sins. Amen
P:  Our Lord who rescues us from all evil shows marvelous loving kindness. God sends Jesus Christ into our world. Christ suffered, died and was buried and rose again. We do know that our Redeemer lives! It is for Christ’s sake that our sins are forgiven. We are blessed with the Holy Spirit and given the power, even in this world, to live again as children of God. In the name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
