Title: “Have
You Understood All This?”
Scripture
Cuttings:
1 Kings 3:5-12
Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, able
to discern between good and evil;
Psalm 119:129-136 Keep my steps steady according to your
promise, and never let iniquity have dominion over me.
Romans 8:26-39 We
know that all things work together for good those who love God, who are called
according to his purpose.
Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52 "Have you understood
all this?" They answered, "Yes." And he said to them,
"Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is
like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and
what is old."
Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in
remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P: In the Name of the
Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
P: Let us bring our repentance before God the
giver of all things.
(pause)
O Lord my God...
C: You give me an
understanding mind,
and the ability to discern
good from evil,
but I make the goals of my life,
wealth, triumph, even long life.
You show me your steadfast
love,
yet I struggle in all my relationships,
with my spouse, my children, my siblings, my
parents.
Your love could be the
greatest discovery of my life.
You make marvelous things from the smallest
beginnings.
Yet I search elsewhere for joy and glory.
Save me Lord from the sins I
know.
Save me Lord from the sins I
hide.
(pause for reflection and self-examination)
P: The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness as
we try to pray to God. The Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And
God who searches our hearts knows our repentance. In God’s steadfast love,
Jesus Christ, God’s only son is given for us. For his sake our sins are
forgiven. We may walk in faithfulness, righteousness and in uprightness of
heart, because nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God in
Christ Jesus our Lord. In the name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy
Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw
P: The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
