Scripture
Cuttings:
Isaiah 25:1-9 On
this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food,
a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines
strained clear.
Psalm 23 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my
enemies;
Philippians 4:1-9 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your
gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything,
but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known to God.
Matthew 22:1-14
For many are called, but few are chosen.
Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in
remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P: In the Name of the
Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
P We are invited to God's Banquet, let us cover
ourselves in humbleness and confess our sin. (pause cause humble don't come easy)
O Lord God...
C: we receive your
invitation
and we really want to attend
your banquet
yet we attend to so much other business.
We are grateful you extend
your invitation to all people,
not just the pious privileged.
But now that we are members
of your church,
we screen the guest list,
so
that people will be like us,
think
like us, and ...like us.
We count on your
faithfulness in the open invitation
but do not RSVP with our faithfulness.
Lord forgive the sins we
reveal.
Lord save us from the sins
we cover.
(pause for reflection and self-examination)
P: The invitation to God's Banquet remains open.
The covenant is sealed by our Savior's victory over sin and death. For Christ's
sake our sins are forgiven. Let us Respond to our Savior's Victory Party, and
live out the gift given to us for the glory of the Father, and the Son, + and
the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw
P: The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
