Sermon Title: "Paying the landLord"

Scripture Cuttings:
Isaiah 5:1-7 My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill. He dug it and cleared it of stones, and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it; he expected it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes.
Psalm 80:7-14 You brought a vine out of Egypt....
Philippians 3:4b-14 Yet whatever gains I had, these I have come to regard as loss because of Christ.
Matthew 21:33-46 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the kingdom.

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Let us be honest with the landLord. (pause to remember God does judge)
  O Lord...
C: we know all good things come from you,
we know we are only tenants in your creation,
we know our prosperity is all your blessing.
But we place our confidence in our own efforts,
  rather than your mercy.
And we claim ownership of all your gifts,
  as if  we earn them.
Still we grumble at your blessings:
  they are not good enough,
so we fail to see You are asking us,
to give in love as we receive in love.
Forgive us Lord for the sins we know in our hearts.
Save us Lord from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)

P:  Because our landLord is both gracious and merciful we have been given all that is good, and we have been redeemed from all that is evil, even the evil that we do ourselves. For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven. Through the power of the Holy Spirit we may live faithful lives to the glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!

C: And also with you!
