9/21/2014 Confession

Sunday Title:  Community Sunday
Sermon Title: I’m just happy to be here!

Previously:
Sunday Title:  Discipleship Sunday
Sermon Title: Mercy? Generosity?
Sunday Title:  Labor Relations Sunday
Sermon Title: “Who hears what?”

Scripture Cuttings:
Jonah 3:10-4:11 And the Lord said, "Is it right for you to be angry?"
Psalm 145:1-8 The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
Philippians 1:21-30 I will know that you are standing firm in one spirit, striving side by side with one mind for the faith of the gospel, and are in no way intimidated by your opponents.
Matthew 20:1-16 For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Let us put aside the arrogance of our religion
       and have confidence in God.
(pause- because arrogance takes a moment to put aside)
  O Lord...
C: we count on your mercy,
yet expect you to punish the wicked.
We serve you in faith,
  but when others don’t,
we forget the joy of doing your work.
We pout in our prosperity
when you distribute your generosity so . . . “unjustly”.
Forgive us Lord for the sins we know in our hearts.
Save us Lord from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Jesus Christ, the only son of our Heavenly Father, comes so that we might know God’s mercy. He suffered and died paying the wages of our sin. Our sins are forgiven. We have been graciously granted the privilege of believing in Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit we may live our lives in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. In the name of Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!

C: And also with you!
