Cycle A Lectionary 26 Proper 21

9/28/2014 Confession

Sunday Title:  Discipleship Sunday
Sermon Title: Please Welcome Pastor Richard Bowen

Previously:
Sunday Title:  Repent Sunday
Sermon Title: “Please Welcome Nancy Scopic”

Scripture Cuttings:
Ezekiel 18:1-4, 25-32 “The parents have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge”? As I live, says the Lord God, this proverb shall no more be used by you in Israel. Know that all lives are mine; the life of the parent as well as the life of the child is mine:
Psalm 25:1-9 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness' sake, O Lord!
Philippians 2:1-13 And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross.
Matthew 21:23-32 What do you think? A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work in the vineyard today.' He answered, 'I will not'; but later he changed his mind and went. The father went to the second and said the same; and he answered, 'I go, sir'; but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  The Lord God will judge all of us according to our ways,
therefore let us repent and turn from our transgressions.
(pause to remember God does judge)
  O Lord...
C: we know that your way is the way of forgiveness,
  still we don’t like repenting.
We would rather talk the righteous talk
  than walk the faithful walk.
We don’t intend to question your authority,
but is all this humility necessary?
Save us Lord from the sins we know in our hearts.
Save us Lord from the sins we hide.
   (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  Because Jesus Christ, God’s only son, born in human likeness, and being found in human form, humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross, because of this our sins are forgiven. Our repentance counts. By the power of the Holy Spirit we may bend our knee in humility and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. In the name of Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!

C: And also with you!
