Sermon Title: Love or Command What is the difference?
Sunday Title:  More Love Sunday
Sermon Title:Chosen Love”
Sunday Title:  Commandment Sunday
Sermon Title: "Obey and Faithful"
Sunday Title:  Ask Sunday,
Sermon Title: “In My Name”

Scripture Cuttings:
Acts 10:44-48 "Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" So [Peter] ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
Psalm 98 ...[the Lord] is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice and its people with fairness.
1 John 5:1-6 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith.
John 15:9-17 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  God has chosen us, let us be pure before God.
(reflection: pure is mostly a 100% proposition)
P:  Saving Lord...
C: we keep the Good News,
for ourselves, and those most like us,
but you give it to all nations and generations,
and pour out your Holy Spirit everywhere.
We are so confident in our abilities,
we do not seek to act in faith,
we are not willing to go with God.
We have been chosen, and appointed to bear fruit,
still we ask of you for our own sake,
and not in the name of Jesus Christ.
Lord you know what does abides in us,
Forgive us for the sins we name,
save us from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  God chooses forgiveness. The Lord is risen!
C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
P:  Jesus Christ lays down his life for us. There is no greater love than this. For Christ’s sake our sins are forgiven. Because we are restored our lives may bear much fruit, and we may live each day in the completed joy we have in Christ. To the glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!

Cycle B Easter 5

May 3, 2015 Confession

Sunday Title:  Another Real Love Sunday
Sermon Title: Well Connected

Previously:
Sunday Title:  Mother’s Day
Sermon Title: Love Mother Vine True
Sunday Title:  Mother’s Day First Communion Sunday
Sermon Title: “First Love”
Sunday Title:  Abiding Sunday
Sermon Title: "How do you interpret abiding?"
Sunday Title:  Love Sunday
Sermon Title: “God is Love”

Scripture Cuttings:
Acts 8:26-40 So Philip... heard him reading the prophet Isaiah. He asked, "Do you understand what you are reading?" He replied, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to get in and sit beside him.
Ezekiel 19:10-14 (2009) Your mother was like a vine in a vineyard transplanted by the water, fruitful and full of branches from abundant water. Its strongest stem became a ruler's scepter; it towered aloft among the thick boughs; it stood out in its height with its mass of branches.
Psalm 22:25-31 ...future generations will be told about the Lord, and proclaim his deliverance to a people yet unborn, saying that the Lord has done it.
1 John 4:7-21 God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.
John 15:1-8 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.

All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  God is love, let us see where we fall short. (pause)
P:  Saving Lord...
C: we find your love in our lives,
but we are reluctant to share with our brothers and sisters,
   even to spread the Gospel.
The power of the word lays open before us,
  interpretation and understanding are available,
still we do not want to grow in faith.
We feel your love abides in us – inside ourselves,
yet we have no spirit of reconciliation or trust.
    so your love abides not in us;
not to our brother and sister nor into this community.
Lord you know what does abide in us.
Forgive us for the sins we name,
save us from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  God is love, let us see where we are raised. The Lord is risen!
C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
P:  Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Our sins are forgiven. As we come to know God’s love for us in this way, we testify to the love of God the Father. Our testimony comes to the world as we love our brothers and sisters as we build this faithful community. This love bears much fruit to the glory of God the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!

Cycle B Easter 4

4/26/2015 Confession

Sunday Title:  Shepherd Sunday  Name Sunday
Sermon Title: The Legacy of the Name of…

Previously:
Sunday Title:  Shepherd Sunday
Sermon Title: What- Who- is the Shepherd?
Sunday Title:  Shepherd Sunday
Sermon Title: “Welcome Pastor Jim Brandis Chaplain at Shepherd of the Valley”
Sunday Title:  Mother's Day
Sermon Title: "In the Name of Love"
Sunday Title:  Shepherd Sunday,
Sermon Title: “What Is in a Name?”

Scripture Cuttings:
Acts 4:5-12 ...let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth....
2 Samuel 5:1-25 (2009) Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, "Look, we are your bone and flesh. For some time, while Saul was king over us, it was you who led out Israel and brought it in. The Lord said to you: It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over Israel."
Psalm 23 He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
1 John 3:16-24 Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.
John 10:11-18 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.

All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  God knows everything, let us receive the truth in our confession.
    (take time to contemplate everything)
P:  Saving Lord...
C: We love in word and speech
but not in truth and action,
so we like those most like ourselves,
and we take instead of give,
and we try to fill our physical and spiritual needs
instead of the needs of others.
We do not declare the power of Jesus name,
not even for our own life, and so
living is not centered on you.
How can we bring the Good News to all people?
Our Lord Jesus gives us the greatest gift:
he lays down his life for us, and takes it up again,
    but we desire lesser gifts
and we are unwilling followers of our Shepherd, Jesus.
Lord you know the truth in our hearts, better than we do,
Forgive us for the sins we can name,
save us from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  God reassure our hearts: The Lord is risen!
C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
P:  Jesus Christ lays down his life for us, and takes it up again. For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven. Because we know the love of Christ we know the love of our Heavenly Father. This love continues through the Holy Spirit and we may be filled with wisdom and courage to hear and speak the truth, to declare Jesus is "My Messiah." In the name of God the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!

Cycle B Easter 3

4/19/2015 Confession

Sunday Title:  Still Still Resurrection Sunday
Sermon Title: Are We Still Working on the Resurrection?

Previously:
Sunday Title:  Eyes Open Sunday
Sermon Title: Ghost Story? -I doubt it!
Sunday Title:  Joy Sunday
Sermon Title: “Opening Minds”
Sunday Title:  Mission Sunday
Sermon Title: "What a Country!"
Sunday Title:  Author Sunday,
Sermon Title: “The Living Author of the Living Life”

Scripture Cuttings:
Acts 3:12-19 Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out....
Psalm 4 Know that the Lord singles out godly people for himself.
1 John 3:1-7 And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
Luke 24:36b-48 Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.

All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Let us repent and turn to God so that our sins may be wiped out. (pause)
P:  Saving Lord...
C: We have received the faithful witness of the resurrection,
but we hoard our joy, and are reluctant servants of Jesus.
We do not offer real hope as ministers to the needs of others,
we continue disbelief, doubt and even fear in Christ presence.
Instead of building on the foundation of our Lord: the Author of life,
we center our living and faith
in our own property, power and piety.
Forgive us Lord for the sins we can name,
save us from the sins we hide. (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  The Author of life lives, The Lord is risen!
C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
P:  Our Lord Jesus Christ is revealed to take away our sins. Our sins are forgiven. To the glory of God the Father we are made righteous. See the love our Heavnely Father gives us, that we are called children of God. Through the Holy Spirit we may begin to proclaim repentance and forgiveness in Christ’s name to all nations. To the Glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen. -wjw
