Scripture Cuttings:
Job 38:1-11 Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up your loins like a man, I will question you, and you shall declare to me. Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
Psalm 107:1-3, 23-32 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out from their distress.
2 Corinthians 6:1-13 As we work together with him, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain.... ...our heart is wide open to you. There is no restriction in our affections, but only in yours. In return— I speak as to children— open wide your hearts also.
Mark 4:35-41 "Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  God’s grace is not given in vain, nor is it accepted in vain.
C: Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation.
    (pause for self-examination)
P:  Almighty God,
C: in the greatness and complexity of creation
  your wisdom is revealed.
But we think ourselves the center of the universe you made,
and we darken our lives by ignoring you.
You limit all things under the heavens.
You even stop the wave of our pride with mortality.
Still we test every boundary and cross every line,
      mistaking ourselves as sovereign lives.
With all that you make, and all you give us,
we remain ungrateful, untrusting, and filled with fear.
Lord, some sins we know and some sins we hide.
Only you can save us Lord. (pause for self-examination)
P:  Now is the day of salvation. There are no restrictions in God’s love for us! Our sins, trespass, iniquity, offenses, misdeeds.... are forgiven; wiped out by the power of the sacrifice of the Son of God: Jesus Christ. Now is the acceptable time for us to live without fear; in purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and in the power of God. To the glory of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!

C: And also with you!
