Title: “Recognizing
the Prophet”
Scripture
Cuttings:
Ezekiel 2:1-5 “Thus
says the Lord God.” Whether they
hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house), they shall know that
there has been a prophet among them.
Psalm 123 To
you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
2 Corinthians 12:2-10 Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it
would leave me, but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my
power is made perfect in weakness."
Mark 6:1-13 Where
did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What
deeds of power are being done by his hands!
P: Mortals, let us
stand on our feet
and hear our God who will speak with us. (pause for
self-examination)
All may make the sign of the cross in
remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
Our God is revealed to us as Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
P: Lord,
C: we are
so familiar with ourselves,
and we know
the ways of the world,
how much we do accumulate!
but we forget you made it all, and us.
And we forget you know us better than we
do.
You give us
your word, send your prophets, even your Son,
still we refuse to hear, we take offense,
you pour out your blessings
and we decide it is our good fortune.
we suffer in our errors and mortality
and offer you our complaint.
Lord God,
you reveal truth, grace and righteousness,
we are stubborn, impudent and self
-righteous.
How can we
ever get our head straight?
Forgive us
the sins we can name,
save us from the sins we hide. (pause for
reflection)
P: Blessed are we to
hear the word “repent.” Open is the invitation to know God’s love and be
familiar with our redeemer. It is for Christ's sake our sins are forgiven.
God’s grace is sufficient for us. It rescues us and installs us in right
relationship with God. When we yield our “strength ” the Holy Spirit may fill
us, God's power is made perfect in our weakness. All to the glory of the
Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. -wjw
P: The peace of the
Lord be with you always!
C: And also
with you!
