Scripture Cuttings:
1 Kings 19:15-16, 19-21 So he set out from there, and found Elisha son of Shaphat, who was plowing.
Psalm 16 The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
Galatians 5:1, 13-25 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these…. By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.
Luke 9:51-62 No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.

Confession:
All may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of baptism
as the presiding minister begins:
P:  In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

P:  Let us take this time to be honest with God. (pause)
  Almighty and loving God,
C: you set us out on the path of life; free
yet we enslave ourselves with self-indulgence.
You place us in a pleasant land with all that we need
and we run after gods of our own making.
You give to us the good heritage of our salvation
yet we choose the works of the flesh
over the fruit of the Spirit.
Call again to us Lord so we may turn from our sins.
Forgive us Lord for the sins we know in our heart.
Save us Lord from the sins we hide.
    (pause for reflection and self-examination)
P:  For all these Lord we are deeply sorry.
C: Amen
P:  God does call to us to new life in the salvation brought to us by Jesus Christ. Because of Christ our sins are forgiven, our path is made again clear, we can still hear the call to follow, and we ourselves may again bear the fruit of the Spirit. In the name of the Father, and the Son + and the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen -wjw

P:  The peace of the Lord be with you always!
C: And also with you!
